January 19, 2010 Update: Letter from Larry and Kathi Hall

You've seen the news. The tragedy in Haiti is overwhelming. Survivors of the earthquake—millions of them—are growing desperate for food, clean water and medical help.

News reports out of Haiti can be confusing, even contradictory. I'm sure you've seen the reports of looting and how difficult it is to get resources to the people who need it.

But help is arriving. We've been working since the earthquake happened to assist our missionaries and our Convoy of Hope staff who are on the ground in Haiti. About 200,000 meals have been carefully distributed through multiple sites. Food is being handed out without incident. Two mobile units with armed guards are reaching others who can’t make it to the distribution sites. So many more still need help!

And, thanks for the concerns you’ve expressed about our AG churches and missionaries in Haiti. With over 270 Assembly of God churches and six LACC schools in Haiti, we don’t know the condition of all of them. We do have some reports of destroyed churches and pastors who have died. Our two missionary families in Haiti, the Smiths and Courters with their three darling kids, were unhurt, praise the Lord!

As your friend and as a missionary with AG Relief/AGWM Communications, I'm writing you today to ask you to lift up fervent prayer for Haiti. It would be wonderful to have our friends all over specifically praying for:

  • the victims
  • the AG church in Haiti that it will grow stronger through this
  • the missionaries and their kids who went through this trauma
  • the families of the 3 Free Methodist missionaries killed Tuesday
  • those of us at AG Relief and Convoy who are working to save lives and proclaim the gospel to our neighbors in Haiti while their hearts are especially open to the love of Jesus.

We all need your prayer,

Larry and Kathi Hall

P.S. If you would like to contribute to the relief efforts call me at 417-353-2069. I’ll be happy to talk. I'll share as much first hand information as we have so far. Thank you for praying. I know you are.
